KV2040-CONTEST

YAGI-UDA DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA 6 ELEMENTS DUAL BAND 40 AND 20 METERS

kv2040-contest.jpg

The KV2040-CONTEST is a 6-element dual-band, 40/20 meter Yagi-Uda directional antenna, which in practice are two monoband antennas sharing the same boom, each with its own independent power supply. A way to optimize space, reduce station costs and obtain high performance in the 40 and 20 meter bands.

For the 40 meter band there are two elements of approximately 70% of a full size antenna length using high Q coils, while for 20 meters there are four full size elements without shortening. Both elements are mounted on an 8.0m boom making the KV2040-CONTEST a unique antenna on the market.

The antenna is dedicated to radio amateurs who understand that every detail makes a difference when seeking results and high performance at the station. Whether for use in CONTESTS, DXs or even when working that rare DXCC.

For even more demanding radio amateurs, there is the option of installing two stacked antennas, using the same tower, with the same rotor kit and stack switch. With just one 4-channel stack switch, it is possible to make a perfect combination of 2 stack sets of different bands on the same tower.

Several software simulations and practical tests were performed to prove the non-existence of interaction between the 40 and 20 meter elements. It is not new that several antenna manufacturers around the world combine the 40 and 20 meter bands in the same antenna.

COILS:

The calculation and construction of the coils was one of the main points of attention in the antenna design, since it is only possible to obtain a high-performance shortened antenna with well-constructed coils and quality wires. In our antennas, we use enameled wire with a gauge of 8.4 mm² and a good ratio between length and diameter of the coils. These characteristics allow the coils to present very low losses and support high power. In addition, the coils were calculated to dispense with the use of "capacitive radials", which facilitates assembly and installation.
